Yuriko Star is a tough, intelligent, no-nonsense woman who takes her career in the military very seriously. A family friend of Admiral Hanner's family, she first meets Tylor when he entered the hostage crisis simply to give Admiral Hanner his pension. Their paths cross again when Yuriko volunteers to be assigned to the Soyokaze as its communications officer, despite Admiral Mifune's attempts to get her to change her mind. She believes she has a duty and a purpose in this war and that her greatest purpose now is to change Captain Tylor and reform the crew.
A strict woman, easy to anger (especially when Tylor's around), she follows rules and procedure to a fault. Despite her temperment, Yuriko is a woman who very strongly follows her beliefs. She believes that love is the greatest aspect one needs to win a war and is truly a kind hearted person. She is a mature, at times almost motherly, woman. Though originally angry and frustrated by the lazy captain of the Soyokaze (especially his attempts to flirt with her), she eventually begins to understand and even care for the captain and reaches the point where she would risk everything to save him.
